Wat Phrabuddhivongsamunee, a Theravada Buddhist temple, was founded in 2002 under the religious laws of the state of California  by the Laotian, Thai and Cambodian communities in Northern California under the leadership of Venerable Sombun Laxsanaamporn, head Monk. There are currently 9 Monks and the temple resides on a quiet 5 acre parcel of farmland just North of Eight mile road off Interstate 5.   .  

1. Objectives of the temple :

To propagate and promote the teachings of the Buddha.

To fulfill the spiritual needs of the Buddhists and other groups of people.

To assist and promote educational and cultural activities in Thai, Laotian and Cambodian communities in Northern California

bullet

To organize religious ceremonies and activities.

2. Monks Daily Routine :

5.00 A.M.  Morning chanting and meditation practice.

bullet

7.00 A.M.  Breakfast.

bullet

11.00 A.M.  Lunch. (There are no more meals until the next morning)

bullet

1 P.M. - 4.00 P.M.  Any particular works : counseling, preaching, holding talks and discussions on Dharma in Buddhism, meditation, printing journal or booklet and so on.

5.00 P.M.  Evening chanting and meditation practice.

 

3. Buddhist Holydays Ceremonies

Maghapuja Day : On the full moon day of the third lunar month (usually in the middle of February) in commemoration of the Great Assembly of Buddha’s disciples.

 Visakhapuja Day : On the full moon day of the sixth lunar month (usually in the middle        or towards the end of May) in commemoration of the Birth,  the Enlightenment and the Passing Away of the Buddha.

Asalhapuja Day : On the full moon day of the eighth lunar month (usually in the middle or towards the end of July) in commemoration of the Buddha’s first sermon.

Vassa Observance : The beginning of Buddhist rainy-retreat on the day following the Asalhapuja Day.

Vassa-Ending Day : The end of Buddhist rainy-retreat on the full moon day of the eleventh month (usually in the middle or towards the end of October).

New Year Festival : On the first day of January.

The Songkran Festival or The Water Splashing Festival (Thai Traditional New Year’s Day) : on April 13.

Sard Ceremony (The Ceremony of Merit-Transference to the dead) : On the new moon day of the tenth lunar month (usually in  September) to transfer merit to the departed people.

The Kathin Festival (Robe-Presentation Ceremony) : on any day during one month following Vassa-Ending Day to present robes to the monks who have completed the Rains Residence (Retreat).

Loy Kratong: Loy” means “to float” and a “Krathong” is a name for the lotus-shaped vessel made of banana leaves. The Krathong usually contains a candle, three incense sticks, fresh flowers and some coins.

    The Monthly Meditation Retreat Program 

    Wat Phrabuddhivongsamunee provides Buddhist studies and meditation retreat to those who are interested in Buddhism and meditation training. The Monthly Meditation Retreat Program is held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the first week of every month.  All instructions and talks are both in English and Thai.

    The Current Activities 

         Wat Phrabuddhivongsamunee There are two daily sessions of chanting and meditation at 5 A.M. in the morning and at 5 P.M. in the evening. Anyone interested welcome. On every Saturday and Sunday Dharma talks and discussions are arranged for those interested in learning more about Buddhism and its philosophy. The provision of aids and facilities for people in performing religious rites and holding merit making is available. Other activities include Dharma book service.

    4. Directions to The Temple

         Wat Phrabuddhivongsamunee is located in the Farmlands between Eight Mile Road and Highway 12 off Thornton Road in Stockton CA. 

                1) From Suisun City or Fairfield take Highway 12 toward Lodi / Stockton / Rio Vista. Stay on Highway 12, about 39 miles until you come to Interstate 5. Go under I-5 and turn right on Thornton Road. You can take a right onto I-5 heading toward LA then exit at the Eight Mile Road off I-5. Take a Left on Eight Mile Road (away from the shopping mall). About 1/2 mile up you will see Thornton Road, take a left and the Temple is 1/4 mile on the left. .

                2) From I-5 take the Eight Mile Road exit. Head away from the shopping mall and turn right onto Thornton Road. The temple is about a 1/4 mile up on the left. There are Three Dharma Flags in front of the Temple. There is a sign that shows the address of 11253.
